More than a container-space comparison
fulfillmentyx’s ocean freight information asks buyers to compare LCL and FCL using the complete movement. LCL uses shared container space, while FCL is booked as a full-container service. Carrier guidance from Maersk describes the choice as dependent on the shipment’s requirements.
For a seller, the practical comparison also includes collection, consolidation, origin handling, destination handling and final delivery. A low main-carriage price may leave a different set of charges outside the quote.
Cargo compatibility changes the decision
Packed volume, total weight, stackability and the nature of the goods need to be considered together. Fragile cartons, long pieces and heavy crates can introduce handling needs that are not apparent from a cubic-volume total.
When several factories supply one shipment, the consolidation plan should show which goods are ready and which are still outstanding. Waiting for a late factory can affect the booking even when the chosen container arrangement remains suitable.
Compare dated quotations on one cargo record
The review should use the same packing list, finished measurements, origin and receiving point for both options. Ask each quote to identify its included work, exclusions, validity and the point at which the estimated schedule begins.
The ocean freight service and supplier consolidation service can be scoped together. A dedicated container is not automatically the lowest total-cost option for every load, and shared space is not automatically appropriate for every small shipment.
