Received is not the same as ready for resale
A returned carton can look intact while containing the wrong variant, missing accessories or a used product. fulfillmentyx’s returns workflow calls for the stock status to remain clear until the agreed checks and disposition are complete.
The approach separates the physical receipt of a return from the commercial decision to sell it again. A carrier delivery event establishes that a parcel reached an address; it does not establish that the contents meet the seller’s resale standard.
A return reference connects the evidence
The return record should link the authorized return, original order and SKU to the goods received. The inspection brief can specify visible condition, completeness, packaging and the photographs needed for a decision.
Returned goods should remain identifiable while a question is open. The seller can then approve restocking, repacking, a supplier discussion or another agreed disposition. Mixing unresolved units into available inventory makes that decision harder to reverse.
Agree the route before accepting a return
International returns also need a confirmed receiving address, route and responsibility for transport and any relevant clearance arrangements. A domestic customer return should not automatically be directed to China.
The warehouse team can help scope receipt and inspection for an agreed return flow. Refunds and marketplace decisions remain separate seller responsibilities. The operating plan should state who authorizes each inventory-status change so returned units do not become available through an automatic stock update.
